Why are all the state highway signs that are coming in purple? Is that the new state color? When did it change and why?

Stan Whitley, who works in the transportation information department of the Kansas Department of Transportation, said KDOT doesn't have any purple signs on Kansas highways. Purple is not an approved color for signs, he said.

There are no purple signs on the Kansas Turnpike either, said Judy Gilchrist, public relations assistant for the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
