I read the article on college graduation rates for athletes. I was wondering how the rate for the Kansas University athletes compares with national rates.

The most recent graduation rates published by the NCAA are from the freshman class entering in 1993. The NCAA, in determining its rates, allows six years to graduate.

The national NCAA Div. I-A graduation average for that group is 60 percent for all students and 59 percent for student-athletes. For that 1993 freshman class at KU, 53 percent of all students graduated and 54 percent of KU student-athletes graduated, said Paul Buskirk, KU's associate athletics director for student support services.
