I heard that it was the KU music department, not the KU athletics department, that decided to cancel the Band Day parade. Is that true?
Yes, it's true. Band officials said they had no choice but to cancel the parade when the FOX network set kickoff of the Sept. 15 game at 11:30 a.m.
The high school bands practice on the field for 1 1/2 hours before the game, and they can't be on the field immediately before kickoff because the teams must warm up. That would make the parade too early, band officials said.
The mass band still will perform at halftime of the KU-Wyoming game.
