Sound Off

I noticed there's been a lot of surveying work going on at County Road 1029. Why?

Douglas County is preparing to make some major improvements to the road from U.S. Highway 40 to Lecompton.

The project is on the county's five-year plan for federal funding, where 80 percent of the construction costs will be covered by federal funds. The Kansas Department of Transportation, which oversees allocation of the funds, plans to solicit bids for the project in February 2003. Right now, the county is preparing to enter into an engineering design contract with BG Consultants, Lawrence, for the project, which is estimated to cost $1.6 million.
