I was showing a visitor to Lawrence all the development on Wakarusa Drive, and we went by Langston Hughes School. There is no sign displaying the name of the school. Why not?
Myron Melton, principal at the elementary school, said the school's name and address was displayed on the building's exterior.
The school's parent-teacher organization has discussed purchasing a large sign for placement on the grounds for view by motorists. The group decided to wait until a new road is constructed north of Langston Hughes before deciding where to locate a sign, Melton said.
"For now," he said, "having the name and address is adequate."
