Why is it a good idea for KU to spend $4.6 million on the Dole center, but they can't afford to spend money on sports?

The simple answer is that one's an apple, the other's an orange. Just because someone or some group is willing to donate to the Dole Center doesn't mean they'll bankroll the athletics department.

The Robert J. Dole Institute for Public Service and Public Policy and the Dole Collection former Sen. Dole's collected papers and other materials that he donated to KU in 1997 will be built next year on KU's West Campus. In addition to preserving history, the Dole Institute offers public service and public policy programs.
