I heard the recent option of going south of Wakarusa for the South Lawrence Trafficway is being rejected because the land there is owned by two high-ranking judges in Kansas. Is there any truth to that?
No, says Mike Rees, chief counsel for the Kansas Department of Transportation.
"The south of the river proponents, to my knowledge, have not talked to the (property owners)," he said. "No group of individuals is going to affect these decisions as to which alternative is chosen, both north and south of the river."
The department has hired a firm to study routes south of the river, and the results of the study may be available in May or June.
