Why did the school board have the district pay for James Hilliard to attend a conference in California when he only has a couple months left in office? Why didn't they allow all the members to attend, instead of just a few?
Lawrence Supt. Randy Weseman said the district made no distinction among board members when paying fees and expenses for trips to education conferences.
"He's still a board member," Weseman said. "We don't distinguish on length of term."
Hilliard attended a national school board conference last month in San Diego with five Lawrence board members. He didn't run for re-election and his term expires in June.
Of the seven Lawrence board members, only Scott Morgan declined to attend the San Diego conference.
