Sound Off

Not too long ago, there was an article about the state selling confiscated guns. How do people find out about state auctions? Who do they tell, just the police? My friend is a gun dealer and he doesn't know about the auctions.

The gun sale in question has been postponed, due to some confusion about the interaction of state and federal laws.

A:According to Kansas Department of Revenue spokesman Scott Holeman, one law says the department is required to sell seized firearms but is restricted to selling them to federally licensed dealers. Another law says state auctions must be open to the public.

To find out about future auctions involving guns, call Nancy Ames with the Bureau of Alcoholic Beverage Control, (785) 296-7015.
