Could you explain what was done at the Lawrence school district's old administration building on Clinton Parkway to fix it up for the Raintree Montessori School? I've been hearing some pretty wild stories that I'm not sure are right.

A: Tom Bracciano, the district's director of facilities and operations, said the vacant building was modified to make it inhabitable by young children.

He said modifications included installation of a fire alarm, smoke detectors, emergency exits (windows were replaced by doors) and a deck off a second-floor door for an emergency exit; construction of a wall in the old school board meeting room to split the space in half; removal of several interior walls; and painting of the interior.
