Commissioner Charles Jones told us at a recent Kanwaka Township meeting that the county zoning regulations that they're getting ready to pass would only affect home-based businesses. Would any company operating in the county on improperly zoned land be affected?
Keith Dabney, the county's zoning and codes director, said the county does require that a dwelling be on site, and someone must live there. Existing commercial businesses that fall into the third category of the proposed regulations will have five years to relocate to properly zoned land. Nonretail businesses included in that category are welding, machine and contractor shops, and some others.
County commissioners will discuss the proposed regulations at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
