Sound Off

What is the roped-off area at the last boat dock at Clinton Lake going to be for? It had orange barriers there, and we were wondering if it was a handicapped area or if it was going to be accessible for fishing any time soon.

Jerry Schecher, manager of the Clinton Lake State Park, said the area is barricaded to prevent vandalism and people from diving back there. He said people still can walk around the barricade if they want to fish there.

Ultimately, Schecher said, the area will be handicapped-accessible. There will be picnic areas with grills along the 500-foot trail, which leads into the woods. He said he also plans to put in an accessible bathroom as well as a fishing dock.

The project began three years ago with help from the Kansas National Guard and Department of Wildlife and Parks.
