Is it true that two Wakarusa Township board members have their Blue Cross insurance paid for through the township, and that they don't pay for it themselves? It seems that the taxpayers' money is paying for it, and I'd like to know if that is true or not. Is this legal?

Yes, it is legal, says Douglas County Administrator Craig Weinaug. Wakarusa Township board members Charles Ledom and Steve Sublett are on the county's insurance through the township. Since the township is a local unit of government, Weinaug said, it has the opportunity to participate in the county's medical insurance pool. Also, he said other county-funded agencies such as Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center may participate in the insurance.
