What caused the power outage that hit west Lawrence on Thanksgiving Day? How many were affected? How long was the power out?

KPL spokeswoman Cynthia McCarvel said that a squirrel climbing a transformer shorted out a line Thanksgiving afternoon, cutting power to parts of West Lawrence and Lecompton.

"It affected approximately 850 customers," she said. "The boundaries were Sixth Street, 16th Street, Monterey Way and the west city limits. It lasted about 68 minutes."
