I realize they're trying to do new construction for the wading pool in South Park, but why is it necessary for the dump trucks that are fully loaded to drive over the existing sidewalk, creating several cracks that are large enough they'll have to repair the sidewalk in addition to the work they're doing at the pool?
The west side of the park is designated the entrance for construction vehicles, say Lawrence city officials. It is the shortest distance to the site and will do the least damage to the park.
It's difficult to avoid running over the walk, said Fred DeVictor, parks director. He said if trucks went north or south, they would destroy more park turf. The contractor is aware of the potential damage to the entrance-area sidewalks and is responsible for the repairs.
