Does the Lawrence fire department have any of those thermal imaging cameras and, if they don't, do they plan on getting any?

Chief Jim McSwain of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical said his fire department has five such units, which are used to find hot spots in structure fires and to find fire victims through the thick smoke a fire can create. The number of units means the department always has one at a fire, he said.

The units are being upgraded, McSwain said, meaning one or two are gone for about a day before being returned. The department never has fewer than two units available, he said.
