Haskell has been without security since the fall 1999 semester. What are they doing to resolve the problem?

For the most part, the lack-of-security issue at Haskell Indian Nations University remains unresolved.

Last year, federal officials ruled that HINU had been improperly using its facilities budget to fund its security force, which led to the force's dismantling.

Last week, the HINU Board of Regents learned that efforts to include the money in next year's budget were unsuccessful.

Bill Mohojah, director of the federal Office of Indian Education, said he would see if there was a way to pull enough money from other parts of the budget. He offered no guarantees; instead, he promised to "do everything we can" to fund the positions in the 2002 budget.
