I understand the city of Lawrence pays someone to pick up garage sale signs on Saturdays. Would it make more sense for them to go chase drug dealers and speeders?

The signs are removed by different authorities than the ones who investigate crimes.

"The Building Inspection Department does enforce the city code dealing with signs during the week and on weekends," Lawrence City Manager Mike Wildgen said.

"For example, garage sale, real estate, 'work at home on your computer' signs, etc., are not allowed on the right-of -way or on utility poles within the right-of-way. They are removed when reported to or seen by the building inspection department."
