Sound Off

Before the renovation of the dormitory known at J.R. Pearson, there was a tornado warning siren on the roof. Is there a plan to put that back on the refurbished building, or is it to be moved somewhere else?

According to Douglas County Emergency Management Director Paula Phillips, the siren will be replaced as part of an upgrade of the county's siren system.

"There will be a brand-new siren with a better coverage area installed in the area, probably by the end of the year," Phillips said.

The area is served now by sirens at Hillcrest School and Watson Library.

The newly renovated Joseph R. Pearson Hall is now home to the Kansas University School of Education.
