Looks like this community beats the national average (like 40%). My sister is the only one of our family NOT to have suffered from identity theft. A truly vile crime!
I had my social security number used by an illegal alien that caused problems with the IRS. I tracked the guy down and turned him over to ICE. Never knew what happened to him.
I have a friend that had his Name/Address used by a criminal who used his address to deflect the crimes from his name to my friends name, they both had the same First name and last name and the same middle initail. So his new crimes showed up on my friends record. Took many months to clear up and many visits by the police to his house to arrest my friend.
It can be quite an advantage to have a very unusual last name!
We need to elect attorney generals and ask our law enforcement arms to fight fraud. They aren't making it a priority. The say, there is not much they can do. Actually not much if they don't focus on it. It is more important to our economy than many understand. They don't care about theft, fraud, and id theft unless we make them care.
I had someone use my expired debit card number to buy porn online. It took a whole summer to straighten out. Luckily the bank was pretty cooperative after I was able to convince them I nor anyone in the household would do this.
