I gave/will give at the office--really! Our workplace adopts a larger family, and usually one senior as well. Between gifts purchased and cash donations, the wishlists are almost always taken care of. Other than that, I've never adopted a family, or a child from an angel tree.
Do it every year at my work (I adopt two families that we take care of). Years when there are families still left at the end - I fork out what I have so they can have an x-mas. I am amazed that there are still 400 families left to be adopted in Lawrence. Why aren't people stepping up? I have always hated x-mas because it just shows how greedy most people are. I've watched people at Walmart spend so much money on carts full of toys for their screaming brats and then walk past the Salvation Army bell ringers like they're ticked they have to listen to them. I don't want presents anymore - won't ask for them. Just want those in need to have one good day where they feel like someone out there cares about them.
Sometimes people walk past the bell ringers because they give a larger amount direct to the Salvation Army rather than pieces and bits in the buckets.
I adopt many American families every year, I pay my taxes.
