mrw's ideal: snow December 23-27, and that is it for snow for the year!
rando1965 3 years, 5 months ago
BRING ON THE SNOW AND WE ALL KNOW WE ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE A BLIZZARD IN LAWRENCE.
bearded_gnome 3 years, 5 months ago
"not sure" ... LMAO.
can we get a poster on here to explain his/her/its "not sure vote?
Babboy, the other posting was a blog, so of course it doesn't count...of course it does count if ljworld wants to put the 'moderated' feature on it...then it counts.
Snow for Christmas. don't need 14-inches. today, rain. wow, a lot of it this morning all at once.
Mel Briscoe 3 years, 5 months ago
what dumb butt voted yes???
AreUNorml 3 years, 5 months ago
I totally voted yes. We haven't had a good blizzard in years. I hope it snows sideways. I want more snow than I know what to do with.
M. Lindeman 3 years, 5 months ago
With it being 46 degrees right now, I really wonder if we are going to have more ice than anything. Last time they said we where going to get 8 inch's of snow, we got what maybe a dusting?

mrw; remember 12-31 old year 1-1 new year.

Make sure you have enough food, water, blankets, and buckle down for the haul, etc....
This is KANSAS people, the weather could change at any given moment. Who knew you could have a thunderstorm with hail in December? How awesome was that?
bearded_gnome 3 years, 5 months ago
Tom's right, those conditions mean people shouldn't be on the road!
Honeychild, I'm one of the "dumb butts" who voted yes! we haven't had a good deep snowfall in a couple years, about time.
plus, if we expect 6-8 inches (as current prediction) we'll probably get 2!
just want a white christmas, and if a blizzzzzzzzard comes, people just use some common sense FGS! otherwise its natural selection...

bearded_gnome:
Perhaps the "not sure" response is for honest respondents who have mixed feelings about snow.
For example, I really like to see snow on Christmas eve, but then I also have some very important traveling plans on Christmas (invited for dinner). I'd hate to have to miss dinner! I hear there will be sweet potato pie. Great pie it certainly is, but it is perhaps not worth the risk of death or vehicle destruction.
bearded_gnome 3 years, 5 months ago
bliddel, a very good answer for the 'not sure' and thanks.
your life, and the condition of your car are not worth sweet potato pie. be careful out there!
okay, if we get a real massive blizard, I guess I'm to blame.
"you kids get off my lawn. why, I remember in aught nine, the ol' blizard of Bearded_gnome!' lol

So a few people have to die....it's worth it...isn't it?
Mel Briscoe 3 years, 5 months ago
gnome, salina got almost a foot of snow just a couple of weeks ago, so i'm good. i don't need anymore.
and tom, i totally agree. the flint hills ain't no punk during inclimate weather. i was driving across them during a torrential rain a couple of years ago and it sucked ass.
bearded_gnome 3 years, 5 months ago
when conditions get bad, far too many people don't just avoid the driving!
no, don't want people to die, stupid people shouldn't drive.
if responders, they have better vehicles, radios, and training.
well, HC, snow envy?
Mel Briscoe 3 years, 5 months ago
i don't want anymore snow. i know that i'm not going to get my way but i just don't want anymore. i think it is pretty to look at but i can do that by looking at a calendar picture or watching the weather channel.
this is a tad bit off topic, but you know where there are alot of stupid people driving? kansas city. man i used to get so effing frustrated when i lived there and it would be a heavy rain or snow or whatever and genuises behind the wheel would be driving like its 70 degrees, sunshining and dry on the roads. one time there was an unexpected ice storm and there were over 1,000 traffic accidents w/in a one hour period of time-- just in the KC metro area.
makes me glad i live in salina. ;P

"Are blizzard conditions worth a white Christmas?"
Isn't that question asked bass-ackwards?
"Is _ worth _ ?" The positive thing is put first, then "worth", then the "price" of having that positive thing, e.g. "Is freedom worth dying for?" That makes it a bit clearer, I hope.
So: "Is a white Christmas worth blizzard conditions?"
I suppose questions asked in reader polls are exempt from editing, though... perhaps the unpaid (and less than fully schooled) intern is solely responsible for them? ;-)
Merry Christmas, and God (or Ceiling Cat) Bless Us, each and every one!
P.S. My answer is "no". Christmas is worth a dusting of snow, or a few inches of snow, but not a blizzard that makes it hazardous to drive to Grandma's house (or worse, knocks out power at Grandma's house)!
Wallythewalrus 3 years, 5 months ago
Drove through Iowa on I-80 once I stopped counting at 100 cars and trucks off the road. Almost ran out of gas traveling at 3-5 mph for hours. I took photos of 2 inch thick ice that was still on the road 4 days later. But travel speed was up to 15-20 mph.

How are the roads around town now. Don't think I can get out of my street, but if the plows ever come through I'd like to get out...
rantor 3 years, 5 months ago
The streets are great!
...if you're a polar bear.
Main grid is clear, sides are not plowed; you should have a plan B as you find people stuck and blocking where you want to drive.
p.s. Katie Horner told me. " We're all gonna die!"

If you dont drive a 4 wheel drive truck dont go out. Your little 4x4 car isnt going to cut it, all you people with front wheel drive cars STAY HOME. Ive had to help 4 cars get moved out of the middle of the street so I could drive my big gas hog of a truck down the street to bring my sick niece some powerade. If you go out in your little car I hope you get stuck so I can point and laugh at you while I drive by, your utter lack of common sense still amazes me.
hwarangdo 3 years, 5 months ago
Yeah, big truck? Like the ones i've seen in the ditch here? lol don't get cocky kid! we used to drive the original VW beetle all over town in deep snow because it set high off the road. Please let us know when you will be out in your big truck so when you go into the ditch WE can drive by and laugh at you ... and also when you gas that sucker up ... then we can really laugh at you because we'll still be sittin' on a full tank. :D and btw your utter lack of manners still amazes me.
hwarangdo 3 years, 5 months ago
One more thing - did you happen to catch the pic of the big sand truck that was in the ditch? ... so much for big.
notanoobhere 3 years, 5 months ago
My manners where in full force when I pulled 4 vehicles out who where completely helpless. You didnt see my big ass truck in the ditch. You might have seen me shoveling out someones car and pulling them out though, probably not since you where to busy patting yourself on the back for being a self righteous ass.
