They will be in the same area as Wal-Mart and Tyson...two other sources of filth.

You let the Waka slip through your fingers. Stupid hillbillies.

What a shame! The city will lose a lot of money.

Where was the answer choice "Not one damn bit"cuz that's what I wanted to vote for!

Yes! This festival is one of the biggest fundraisers for Lawrence Community Nursery School.(We run a beer booth there every year.) It means more fundraising for parents, which makes me sad.

Maybe now Lawrence will bring back one of the many music festivals that hosted bands worth seeing! Bleeding Kansas, Jayhawk, Day on the Hill, etc. I've had my fill of The Flaming Lips and Every Stupid Jam Band You Can Think Of.

Well not so "upset" as wondering what's wrong the the folks around here that drive out any attempt to bring money into the area. Also wondering why it took the Festival organizers so long to realize this isn't the place to hvae it.

I for one am glad. I work at a major store here in Lawrence and when those people come in from Wak-Fest they all smell so bad and are so dirty from being out there and not showering for several days that we have to defect the clothing out when they try it on if they do not decide to buy it. Last summer some guy came in and tried on a pair of pants and out right told us he tried it on without any underwear. No one wanted to take them back from him with their bare hands. Some money may be lost, but I know that a lot of money is also spent on repairs and cleaning things up after all the fest-goers leave. Plus, downtown always has a nauseating stench to it that whole week as well.

yes the city will lose money. lets see fines, bond and court costs.

The Minor in Possession charges will severely diminish over the early summer, along with various other charges stemming from the old Wak Fest. The courts will suffer.

I'm very disappointed, but it will still be an exciting summer with the Death Metal and Bratwurst Festival at Robinson Park in June and the 4th of July fireworks at Burcham Park. Also, it would be cool if they did another Bleeding Kansas festival, but that's unlikely.

and yet, you come back every day douglascountrysucks just to tell us how much we suck. How truly pathetic.

Is it just me, or couldn't they have combined the poll with the "on the street" and the story about the festival leaving? Seriously, do we need 3 different threads building with all of them saying pretty much the same thing? One more thing...all this talk about Lawrence driving off the festival...wasn't it the Kansas State park folks that had the issues with the promoters that couldn't get worked out? How was it the city that forced the move of venues?

I cracks me up how everyone seems to believe that there are no minor in possession or alcohol related issues outside of the time Wakarusa is happening. If that is our barometer to determine the worth of anything, then we better just start closing down the University as well. All the college students and their underage drinking killing the moral fiber of our community. It's just another example of a community that, despite their claims of support for forward thought, doing nothing but looking in the rear view mirror while running down yet another opportunity for revenue and jobs.

1029 (Anonymous) says…I'm very disappointed, but it will still be an exciting summer with the Death Metal and Bratwurst Festival at Robinson Park in June and the 4th of July fireworks at Burcham Park.Sorry to disappoint you, but there are no longer fireworks at Burcham Park. This forum isn't exactly a representation of Lawrence, so I assume most of Lawrence will be sorry about the festival leaving. Before the election, reading this forum would lead you to believe the town hated the T, but 70% don't. Keep on whining and being negative. You are all just a total bore. Anyone reading this from out of town, please note that the negatives people in this forum are not representative of Lawrence.

Sorry Im stunned. Lets sell alcohol that you know will end up in minors hands at a festival of hippies to fund our school. That just sounds warped

You think a church has never sold a beer to raise revenue for its good deeds? So a church can sell alcohol but a daycare can't?

And of those 90 plus percent online that get their local news from ljworld.com, only five percent probably attended the festival. The remaining 85 percent fell prey to LJW's yellow journalism.
