A public vote would kill it completely. Best, given the current situation, would be to cut it down dramatically to just running the four major roads (6th, 23rd, Mass, and Iowa) to the city limits and interfacing at points with the KU bus system. Also maintain the special service vans. However, if still too expensive, the big buses should be put in covered storage, up on blocks, for when we need them again in a few years.

Start by raising the ticket price to $3 or higher to bring the income up to the levels of other towns.

I'm guessing raising fares won't do much good-a good percentage of the people who use the bus are already low income. Besides a bunch of grumbling and complaining the ridership will probably just drop a little more.

On the other hand-from what I've seen the T fares are still below the 'average' fare charged by public transit systems.

Is it legal to hitchhike in Lawrence and/or Douglas Co? How willing are all of you to pick up somone on the side of the road who needs a lift? The future of public transportation in Lawrence, Kansas: Thumbs or good walking shoes!
