Temperatures and humidity will take a jump again this afternoon. The high for today will top out at 89 degrees with a moderate south wind ushering in more of that gulf moisture making the heat index read into
the low to mid 90's. Look for the wind to continue out of the south between 5-15 mph with gusts near 20 mph.

School district budget: Lawrence Superintendent Randy Weseman said Wednesday it would take a 2-mill increase to maintain existing services for next year.

Lawrence population: Population numbers released today by the U.S. Census Bureau reinforced an emerging trend: Lawrence's growth rates are no longer keeping up with those in the Kansas City suburbs.

T-shirt lawsuit: A federal jury is expected to start consideration today of a lawsuit that alleges that T-shirts with slogans such as "Muck Fizzou" and "Our Coach Can Eat Your Coach" infringe on the business trademark of Kansas University and harm the school's image.

Chalmers gets signed for over two million: The Miami Heat signed Mario Chalmers to a three-year contract worth around $2.3 million.
