Tim Windholz, of Cardinal Construction, work to build a two-story playhouse at his home in west Lawrence. Windholz is utilizing donated material from local companies to build the house for the 17th Annual Casa4CASA fundraiser. For a $1 donation people can enter a drawing to win the playhouse.

Lawrence High athletes Dorian Green, left, and Mallory West earned the Journal-World’s 2007-08 Male and Female Athlete of the Year honors for their accomplishments with the Lions last school year. Between them, Green and West made four state tournament appearances, including West’s individual gymnastics title.
Lawrence high school graduate Stephanie Drahozal scored a 36 on her ACT, plays the violin, sings in choir and performs in musicals. She has been named the overall ArtStar winner for 2008-2009. The award is sponsored by The World Company and Peoples Bank.
Tim Hjersted, of Lawrence, formed a local group, the Lawrence Peak Oil Action Committee, to urge the city to take action to stem the potential economic effects as the demand for oil outpaces its supply, a concept known as Peak Oil. As a result, he’s enthusiastic about neighborhood markets, like the Eastside People’s Market, 409 E. 12th St. He also encourages people to ride bikes as much as possible.
