Oscar celebrated his 13th birthday May 2 with his family: Amy, Alexis, Briceson, Jack and Pete Junge.
Gizmo, a half-Pomeranian and half-poodle, was rescued four years ago from a shelter in St. Joseph, Mo. He belongs to Beau and Tammy Moody, Baldwin City, and spends weekday afternoons keeping his 84-year-old grandmother, Madeleine, company.

Brother and sister Azi and Manta spend most of their days watching the squirrels that come into the yard. They were adopted last year from the Lawrence Humane Society by Walter and Gretchen Clark, who took this photo.
Black Persian Shea is very difficult to photograph because of her dark fur, so owner Lori Cackler took advantage of an opportunity when Shea was snoozing in her favorite sunspot.
