Neil Goss walks down Massachusetts Street in the Art Tougeau Parade in a costume designed by Lawrence Arts Center visiting artist Dennis McNett, Saturday, May 27, 2017. The costume, along with the rest of the phoenix-inspired pieces in the “Up from Ashes” parade entry, pays homage to the early history of Lawrence and the city’s survival of William Quantrill’s 1863 raid. The pieces were assembled by the artists and volunteers for the parade since the Philadelphia-based McNett arrived Tuesday in Lawrence.
