The Social Service League board of directors and staff give final a pose in their home of more than 150 years. The building will be empty for the next six to nine months as it goes through a series of repairs. In the meantime, the Lawrence community can find the League at 11th and New Hampshire. Melody Gatti, educator at Woodlawn School, was honored as the 2013 Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Teacher of the Year on Sept. 26. Gatti, center, was joined by Craig Penzler, coordinator of the selection committee; Ron Guerin, chair of the community service committee; Jeanne Fridell, principal of Woodlawn School; and Pat McCandless, president of the Jayhawk Breakfast Rotary Club.

Thomas Peterson, center, became the newest Eagle Scout for the Heart of America Council on Aug. 25. Thomas is in Lawrence Boy Scout Troop 52, sponsored by the Lawrence First United Methodist Church.
