James McKenzie on high wheel bicycle

James McKenzie, a retired Lawrence fireman, collects and restores high wheel bicycles, which were popular in America and England in the 1800s. They will be on display Saturday, July 20, 2013, at the Community Bike Ride hosted by the Lawrence Central Rotary Club. The event begins at 8 a.m. at the Rotary Arboretum at Clinton Lake, 5100 W. 27th St. There will be free t-shirts, helmets, snacks and three routes to choose from: a one-mile, three-mile or 10-mile.

James McKenzie, Lawrence, riding on his 1888 English Light Roadster participates in the inaugural Border Raiders ride covering 400-miles through four states in 2005. McKenzie collects and restores the bicycles, which were popular in America and England in the 1800s.
