Leading up to Valentine’s Day, we spent some time with Lawrencians who have been married for decades and know a thing or two about love.
Here’s the advice they wanted to share with the younger generations on Valentine’s Day.

Wayne, 87, and Jackie Marrs, 84, have been married 65 years and live at Meadowlark Estates. Wayne's advice: "People who say 'I love you' don't know what they're talking about. Real love is when you go through the tough times together and can still smile about it." Jackie's advice: "Being equal. Don't be 60-40. Be 50-50 in your plans that you have for each other in your life."

Jim Simpson, 91, is a widow after 56 years of marriage. The Abilene, Kan., native lives at Babcock Place. His advice: "Get acquainted with the family and get to the know the folks you're getting involved with. Because that's going to be your history."

Marge Boron, 80, is a widow after 32 years of marriage. Originally from Youngstown, Ohio, Boron lives at Meadowlark Estates. Her advice: "We just showed each other little things. Something as simple as opening the car door for me."

Nancy Yeagar, 77, is a widow after 51 years of marriage. Originally from Buffalo, N.Y., Yeagar lives at Meadowlark Estates. Her advice: "It should be Valentine's Day all year long."

Marge, 88, and Bob MacLeay, 87, have been married 65 years. Originally from the suburbs of New York City, the couple lives at Meadowlark Estates. Marge's advice: "You never know what the future is going to bring. Changes in your life and your surroundings make a big difference. But you have to know the other person is always there for you." Bob's Advice: "Just remember that your wife is a separate person. And if you don't get her opinion, you're going to miss out on a lot."
