Al Hack was named Volunteer of the Year for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Kansas at a recent statewide meeting in Topeka. Al has served on the board of Boys and Girls Clubs of Lawrence for more than 18 years. Bob Silipigni from the Relay For Life of Douglas County was the 2012 American Cancer Society top individual fundraiser in the state of Kansas as well as in the High Plains Division, which includes Kansas, Nebraska, Missouri, Oklahoma, Texas and Hawaii. The group honored Bob for raising $35,411 and presented his award at the Relay For Life Team Captain Meeting on March 26. Shelle Arnold submitted the photo.

Puma FC is one of the top five soccer clubs playing in the Heartland Soccer league. The girls pictured play in the U8 through U11 divisions, and all players are from Lawrence. Most of the girls are coached by Riny de Boer. They play indoor and outdoor soccer year-round in Overland Park and Olathe, but most are trained in Lawrence. Pack 3363, chartered to the Lawrence Housing Authority, visits Station 2 and the members of the Fire and Medical rescue team. During the visit, the Cub Scouts learned about remembering to change the batteries in smoke detectors, things to do in case of an emergency and to have a family safety plan.
