"Sassy Girl," a rare lorikeet, was stolen from Pet World on Feb. 6. Several children from the community had grown attached to Sassy Girl, and one boy was even saving up to purchase the $900 bird.

Students head home Wednesday from Kennedy School Wednesday under the watchful eye of crossing guard Agnes Rinke, who has manned the intersections at both Harper and East 19th Street and at Maple Lane and East 19th Street for 25 years.

Ryan Schulteis, left, and Taylor Kidder, both Lawrence High School seniors, move one of six new newspaper boxes into a location at school Wednesday. The boxes were donated to the LHS journalism department by the Journal-World circulation department and decorated by students to be used as racks for the school newspaper. This box was decorated as an angler fish from the movie “Finding Nemo” and included LED lights.

This rendering shows what Wescoe Beach could look like after a proposed renovation project. The project could change based on the level of funding allotted to it.
