Students at the First Five Years preschool at First Presbyterian Church in Lawrence gathered Feb. 13 to watch classmate Cooper and his parents receive a check for Cooper’s Cause Foundation, a nonprofit organization that supports families dealing with pediatric heart conditions. The Visiting Nurses Association’s Lawrence office recently celebrated 43 years of serving Douglas County and the surrounding area. Helping to blow out candles and cut the birthday cake is Pat Donahue, Board of Directors president. VNA, which provides home health care and support services, officially opened its doors Feb. 2, 1969, and in its first year, provided 180 visits to 25 patients. Seven Boy Scouts from Lawrence who earned Eagle Scout rank during 2011 were recognized at the Pelathe District’s annual Eagle Scout Recognition Dinner on Feb. 21 at Lawrence Country Club.
