The Dogtoberfest Committee presented $1,000 checks to the Lawrence Humane Society and Lawrence Community Shelter Nov. 30 at the Doghouse. The funds were raised at Dogtoberfest, which was Oct. 16, in South Park. The board of Kansas Advocates for Better Care, a Lawrence-based not-for-profit advocating for quality care in long-term care living situations in Kansas, met for a Dec. 10 quarterly meeting at the Lawrence Chamber offices. These KABC Shining Stars were celebrating a successful year. The Cans for the Community organization was presented the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award for outstanding volunteer community service Nov. 6 at a reception in their honor held at the Spring Hill Suites. Sarah Peltzman, president of Lawrence Medical Managers, left, presented three local agencies with a $500 donation on behalf of the LMM group.
