Time is 'money': Representatives of the Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel attended a Nov. 8 presentation in Gov. Mark Parkinson’s office. The Governor was presented with two facsimile checks, representing the volunteer hours contributed by KARSP members during the past year. The first “check” represented over 490,000 volunteer hours or more than $10.2 million. A second facsimile check of nearly $1.6 million, over 75,000 hours, represented the hours spent working directly with Kansas youth. From left, are KARSP community service chairwoman Lynda Wheeler of Lawrence, Virgil Funk of Topeka, president Karen Pulaski of Sedgwick and Gov. Parkinson. Brilla Highfill Scott of Lawrence, the KARSP state executive director, submitted the photo.
