On behalf of the Lawrence Flower Club, Dr. Arthur Burgess and his wife, Janney, presented the Douglas County Extension Master Gardeners $300 for scholarships and the Junior Master Gardeners $2,529 as gifts to pay forward their love of flowers and gardening. The Lawrence Flower Club, the oldest garden club in Lawrence dating back to 1925, has now disbanded. From left are Cyndy Glogau, 2010 Extension Master Gardener president; Dr. Burgess, Janney Burgess, Jennifer Smith, Douglas County horticulture agent, and Stan Ring, horticulture assistant. The gifts were presented Nov. 17.

Free State Brewing Co. held an open house in October at its production facility. The proceeds benefited the Health Care Access Clinic. The benefit raised $1,100, which was presented to HCA executive director Nikki King following the clinic board’s November meeting at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The check was presented by Steve Bradt, Free State’s head brewer and member of the HCA board of directors. From left are Sheryle D’Amico, HCA board vice president, Bradt and King.
