Scout honors: Dave Ozaki, left, Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 60, and Arden Burgess, chartered organization representative for Boy Scout Troop 55, were presented with the District Award of Merit at the district’s annual Adult Leader Recognition Dinner held Feb. 3 at the First Baptist Church. The Award of Merit is the highest honor granted to volunteers at the district level.

Snow in Texas!: Makenna Huslig, the daughter of Meghan and Tyler Huslig of Texas, spent part of her 1st birthday, Feb. 9, making an angel in the snow. She is the granddaughter of DeAnn and Bob Rahmeier, and the great-granddaughter of Pearl Schneider, all of Lawrence. Schneider submitted the photo.

New centenarian: Norma Osborne, of Lawrence, celebrated her 100th birthday Dec. 7, 2010. A party was given by the Lawrence Art Center, where she worked as a receptionist for 19 years. Many people from the LAC and Central United Methodist Church attended the event. Osborne currently resides at Pioneer Ridge after living at Babcock Place for 29 years. Doctor gets his wings: Dr. Roger Dreiling, director of cardiology at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, received his private pilot license on Jan. 18. Dr. Dreiling’s brother, Steve, also learned to fly at the Lawrence Airport in 1967, 44 years earlier. Nelson Krueger was the flight instructor for both of the Dreiling brothers’ initial flight instruction. Hetrick Air Services submitted the photo.

Proud of pop: Laurel Driskell, 2 1/2, left, and Rachel Driskell, 5 1/2, celebrate after their father’s team won the 5A state championship football game Nov. 27 in Emporia. This was their father’s first year as head coach at Blue Valley High School.
