Community Connections Center volunteer Jane Budde is pictured with one of her students, Ava Frazier, a Lawrence High sophomore. Budde, a retired Lawrence teacher, helped establish a sewing program at the center and teaches not only students like Ava how to sew, but also other educators at the center.

John Griffin is a book shelver at the Lawrence Public Library and is quite adept with the Dewey Decimal system for organizing books.

After moving to Lawrence in 2009, Dan Phelps took on the job of coordinator of the West Junior High garden. Last year, the garden supplied the school's cafeteria with more than 180 pounds of produce. This year, he is coordinating a bigger WJHS garden and a new one at Sunset Hill School.

Tom Boxberger takes recyclables from a baler at the recycling center on KU's West Campus. Boxberber has been working at the center for seven years.
