The United Way of Douglas County announces the recipient of the Pacesetter Trophy for the 2010 Campaign. Sunflower Bank was presented with the “Superstar” trophy on Sept. 27 at the bank’s location on Wakarusa Drive. Sunflower Bank achieved the highest percentage of increase in donations to United Way relative to 2009 contributions — a 50 percent increase — which exceeded the increases of the other Pacesetter organizations that were running their campaigns early to help kick off the annual fundraising drive. Back row, from left, are Sunflower Bank employees Glynn Sheridan, Dale Koerner, Amanda Diercks, Erica Gerrond, Larry Almstrom and Carolyn Landau; front row, from left, are Erika Dvorske, United Way president/CEO; Beverly Smith Billings, 2010 campaign chairwoman; and Karen McGrath, Sunflower Bank’s campaign coordinator.
Robert Schehrer, Lawrence, was selected the winner in the America’s Farmers Grow Communities, which gives farmers the opportunity to win $2,500 for their favorite local nonprofit organizations. Schehrer has designated Just Food, a food pantry in Lawrence, to receive the award on behalf of Douglas County. The $2,500 donation, available through Monsanto Fund, was awarded at a Sept. 29 ceremony at the Just Food warehouse facility. From left are Jami Deters, Monsanto; Robert Jackson, CEO of ECKAN; Damien St. Julien, Just Food warehouse manager; Ann Weick, volunteer; Schehrer; and Carolyn Ward, Just Food coordinator.
