People gathered Wednesday along a stretch of 31st Street near the Haskell/Baker Wetlands to protest the county’s removal of a beaver dam from a culvert underneath 31st Street. The removal caused water levels in the northern half of the wetlands to drop significantly.

Tony Foster, 35, of Eudora, has depended on Health Care Access for helping manage his diabetes. Foster says he couldn’t have afforded insulin and test strips, which were provided free by the clinic. The clinic offers medical care for low-income, uninsured people in Douglas County. Foster is with his daughter, Brionné.
