Jon Smiley, owner of Cork & Barrel, presented a check Nov. 20 to the LMH Endowment Association’s Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer dance committee. Cork & Barrel, along with several other area businesses, helped raise money this past fall in support of breast cancer early detection efforts and education. Their support helped raise more than $60,000 for the LMH Breast Center and LMH Oncology Center.
Nancy Longhurst, general manager of The Eldridge, presents a check to Dr. Eston Schwartz and the staff of the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Oncology Center on Dec. 8 in support of LMH’s Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer dance. The Eldridge did a Drink Pink promotion in October 2009 in support of the dance, which raises funds for mammograms, equipment for the LMH Breast Center and Oncology Center, as well as breast cancer education and awareness materials.
Pelathe District of the Boy Scouts of America presented the District Award of Merit to Scout leaders Herb Tuttle and Annelee Marsh at the annual recognition dinner Feb. 4 at First Baptist Church in Lawrence. Tuttle is an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 52, chartered to the First Methodist Church. Marsh is an assistant Scoutmaster with Troop 55, chartered to Westside Presbyterian Church. The District Award of Merit is the highest honor given annually to adult volunteers at the local level to recognize long-term service to Scouting.
