99 become new U.S. citizens at Dole Institute ceremony September 15, 2009

At center in foreground, Deepasaine Rajendran, from Sri Lanka, and currently a sophomore at KU in pre-med, takes the Oath of Citizenship during a United States naturalization proceeding Monday, Set. 14, 2009, at the Dole Institute. Rajendran was one of 99 people who became U.S. citizens during the ceremony. At right behind Rajendran are Sangeetha Balaganesh and her husband Balaganesh Subramaniam, from Overland Park and formerly of India.
At right, Semira Jemal, formerly of Ethiopia, holds her daughter Amira Nesru, 2, for a photograph and sits with Olivia White, 3, a daughter of a friend, center, and Jemal's other daughter Aliaya Nesru, 5, after Jemal participated in a United States naturalization proceeding Monday, Set. 14, 2009, at the Dole Institute. Jemal, who now lives in Olathe, was one of 99 people who became U.S. citizens during the ceremony.
