Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, III, the “Hero of the Hudson” and author of “Highest Duty” 2009, learned to fly a Piper Cub as a teenager before graduating from High School in Denison, TX in 1969. While attending the Unites States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO., he was a flight instructor for fellow cadets and friends. graduating Outstanding Cadet in Airmanship in 1973. Following seven years service in the USAF as a flight instructor and fighter pilot, he joined Pacific Southwest Airlines (PSA) as a Flight Engineer on the Boeing 727 equipment where he served five years before moving up to co-pilot and Captain. He served on many accident investigation teams and earned a Master’s degree in industrial psychology from Purdue and a Master’s in Public Administration from the University of Northern Colorado. He is currently a visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley – Center for Catastrophic Risk Management. He and his wife Lorrie have two adopted daughters. He will serve as the “Grand Marshal” of the 2010 Rose Parade. Thank you.
