Kansas Underground Salt Museum

A petri dish containing a trace of bacteria billed as the oldest known living organism is displayed at the Kansas Underground Salt Museum. The bacteria were "awakened" by scientists who discovered cells locked inside salt crystals formed an estimated 250 million years ago. The presumption: The living spores came from cells that had been alive and active before the age of dinosaurs.
