Natural gas study

The Kansas Geological Survey, with industry partners, put together the Hugoton Asset Management Project, which models an area that includes the Hugoton gas field.

Natural gas is extracted from pockets within rocks, such as these, deep beneath the surface in southwest Kansas. Leaders of the Hugoton Asset Management Project figure their efforts can help boost the Hugoton field's production by as much as 5 percent, which could mean another 2.5 trillion cubic feet of gas by the time the field is effectively emptied, likely within the next 60 years.
