Rising along 12th Street, The Oread hotel stands 10 stories tall and is changing the look of the Lawrence skyline.
You can't help but notice the tall building going up along the Lawrence skyline as The Oread near completion in the coming months.
From almost anywhere on Mount Oread, you can see The Oread rising along 12th Street. When it's complete, the building will stand 10 stories — and more than 100 feet — tall.
Workers fasten material to the outside of the seventh floor on The Oread hotel, at 12th and Oread, on Tuesday morning as Fritzel Construction employees build up toward the eighth floor of the new hotel Tuesday.
Much of Lawrence is visible from the seventh floor of The Oread, where Fritzel Construction workers are continuing construction work. The building will eventually have 10 stories and stand more than 100 feet tall.
Scaffolding surrounds the shell of The Oread, under construction atop Mount Oread. Construction is slated to be completed by Jan. 1, with a target for interior work to be completed and the building opened by the end of February.
The football fields and Memorial Stadium can be seen from the upper floors of The Oread, where construction continues on the new hotel. The building is expected to open by the end of February.
Oread Avenue has been rebuilt and realigned as it approaches The Oread, the new hotel being built where the road intersects wtih 12th Street.
A steel worker heads up a walkway on the outside of The Oread hotel at 12th and Oread about 7:30 a.m. one recent morning. Employees of Fritzel Construction are on the 7th floor and building toward the eighth floor. The hotel will eventually stand 10 stories tall in places.
