Officials from Eutin, Germany welcome Lawrence representatives to city hall May 30. Mike Dever, former Lawrence mayor, spoke on behalf of the 18-member delegation, and his remarks were translated by Bill Keel, current president of the Lawrence Sister Cities Advisory Board and chairman of the Kansas University German department. The 18-member delegation from Lawrence, their host families and the mayor of Eutin enjoyed a tour on June 1 of historical churches, memorials, harbor and ancient town sites throughout Ostholstein, of which Eutin is the county seat. The tour was organized by Friends of Lawrence, in Eutin, to honor the 20th anniversary of a sister city partnership.
Dr. Terry Riordan of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, P.A. attended the July 18 Casa4CASA benefit at Cielito Lindo restaurant. Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine, P.A. was the title sponsor of the event and also includes Drs. Charles Loveland, Marshall Kelley, Beth Rundquist and Anne VanGarsse. Riordan accepted the plaque, which honored the doctors’ exceptional support during the benefit and their service to CASA children throughout the year.
The 2009 CASA nominees for the Honorable Jean F. Shepherd CASA Volunteer of the Year Awards were honored at the July 18 Casa4CASA benefit at Cielito Lindo restaurant. Nominees, from left, were Sue Midyett, Ray Beaumont and Lee Ann Duver, with Judge Shepherd, right. Katie Becker, not pictured, also was a nominee. Duver was named the CASA winner of the 2009 Volunteer of the Year Award.

The June 2 German-American Friendship Banquet celebrated 20 years of sister city partnership between Eutin, Germany, and Lawrence. Sister Cities Advisory Board members attending the Eutin event were Kelly Herndon and Michael Kennedy. From left are Herndon, Jens Knauer, Kennedy and Karla Knauer. The Knauers were Kennedy’s hosts for the week.

The winner of the playhouse, Pam Smith, was announced July 18 at the Casa4CASA benefit at Cielito Lindo restaurant. Proceeds from the event support Douglas County CASA’s services to abused and neglected children.
