One of the few activities Lawrence police officer Michael McLaren had to respond to on May 10 was writing a ticket for a homeless man who was in violation of the city's camping ordinance. The man was sleeping on a downtown sidewalk when McLaren happened upon him. The man refused to take the ticket, and was then arrested by McLaren and two other officers and taken to Douglas County Jail.
Michael McLaren joined the Lawrence police department nine years ago, coming from the Hays police force where he worked for three years. He says he wants to retire as a member of the LPD.
