Employees of Aquila Inc. and members of the Lawrence River City Cosmopolitan Club volunteered their time May 19 to plant four trees, donated by Aquila, and maintain the landscaping at the Health Care Access Clinic, 1920 Moodie Road. The event was part of Aquila's new Power of Trees program.
The Roger Hill Volunteer Center in Lawrence celebrated Arbor Day at the Pat Dawson Billings Nature Area near 27th Street and Crossgate Drive. Students from Perry-Lecompton High School, assisted by the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department and associates from Home Depot, planted 10 trees at the site April 27. Home Depot donated the trees. John McGrew, chairman of Coldwell Banker McGrew Real Estate, was honored at the event for donating the 42-acre nature preserve to the city.
